Two stop 40 miler

The turn out for the March 40+ mile ride was a respectable 11 with 13 having opted for the shorter 10+ mile option. The destination was the Cafe at Thremhall Park, near Takeley which was last visited on a bitterly cold and windy day for the February 2018 40+ mile ride. The conditions were in sharp contrast this time round with sunny spring weather and light breezes only making for a very pleasant ride. The group rode outward via London Road and Blackley Lane to pick up RCN 50 at Hornells Corner and continued to follow that route via Littley Green, Howe Street, Pleshey, High Easter, High Roding and Great Canfield before peeling off towards Hatfield Forest and, finally, arriving at Thremhall

Thirteen, unlucky for some, but not for Braintree Easy Riders!

Following last month's trial (Thanks to Gifford for leading it), this was our first official ride of just 10 miles or so and we were unsure how popular it would be, but as the sun shone on this Friday morning the high visability shirts kept appearing from all angles. Among the crowd was Jim who had not been out recently, Kate a former member and Mave who had cycled less than 25 miles in 4 months and had offered to lead. Others who were capable of greater mileage decided that just as 'Brexit means Brexit', 'Easy means Easy '. We left the meeting place soon after the bongs from the town hall and proceeded along Panfield Lane, all thirteen of us, with our enthusiasm pushing us forward. Our rout

Hailing to Halstead

Around 30 Easy Riders assembled at Drury Lane for a bike ride to Halstead. I’ve not ridden with the group for a few weeks, because I keep being called to Coventry, where I am a student, for a tutorial at short notice. It was really good to see all my mates again. Today I felt unfit. It appeared that the middle group had too many riders, so I joined the longest group, led by Mick, tailed by John. This was not my best move – I was chasing to keep up for the whole ride. We pedalled off through the town, down Cressing Road, and ended up following the B1018 until we turned left on Pickpocket Lane to Cressing. I found the B1018 stressful, and I started thinking about how all riders need to take r

Topped and tailed on the way to Greenstead Green

For a day with rain forecast, plenty of Easy Riders (Ed - 30 in total) assembled at Drury Lane for our Wednesday bike ride. Health & safety tip for the day comes first. Gavin has a rear view mirror attached to his helmet. Much more convenient to use than a handlebar mirror (I need to angle my elbow inwards to be able to see anything other than my elbow in the mirror!). Helmet mounted mirrors are supplied with two stickyback Velcro fixings. In the UK, you attach the stickyback Velcro to the right hand side of your helmet. If you cycle abroad (Jim and I have cycled in France and the USA where they drive on the right), you attach the other Velcro fixing to the left hand side, and then the mirro
