The first of a programme of Braintree Easy Rider evening rides took place 9th May, a series of six rides over the three months of May, June and July to optimise the evening daylight. These are happening the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of respective months, meeting at Cycles Uk for a 6.30 depart. On this occasion twelve riders enjoyed (or though John seemed somewhat surprised when Mick asked him to be the 'back marker' rider, a good baptism for the role, John, wearing the orange, how does it feel to be 'tangoed'?) a twenty mile ride, experiencing a recently opened cycle path near Freeport before heading to Black Notley, Ranks Green, Fuller street, Gt Leighs, (where some thought we were heading to the Compasses at Littley Green for a liquid stop, but alas that was not to be as Mick led the group past Leez Priory onto Bannister Green before returning to Rayne and back along the Flitch Way. After a somewhat chilly evening, but no rain, we arrived back in Braintree around half past eight with the light just starting to drop away. Well done Ian for completing the twenty miles without a stop at this point in life, no doubt having done so many a time in your earlier years. The next ride is Thursday May 25th, leaving at 6.30.
