We set out in the warn sun on the planned long route to Black Notley, via Bishops Stortford as someone said in jest. No actually via Rayne, Bartholomew Green, Molehill Green, Thistley Green, Little Leighs, Fuller Street and Fairstead. When we got to Notley Road the wind got up and a large black cloud decided to drop a few rain spots on us. The short time till closing of the venue, the sixteen miles already covered, along with the greater chance of getting wet, the sharpened mind of the leader decided to turn left to the venue and miss out the White Notley and Cressing loop. We arrived at the venue just before the Medium ride and after the Short ride with seventeen miles already covered. Two more miles than the Medium ride!
The staff at The Coffee Shop served all forty one of us in under the half hour, whilst we observed through the door the rain spit spotting outside.
Fully replete we decided to lengthen the return leg to compensate for the shorten out leg, setting of past Cresssing Mill and over the level crossing we soon passed the Medium ride and continued via Cressing, Hawbush Green,Perry Green, across the A120 to Pattiswick, Tumblers Green to the woods on the Lyons Hall Rd. near High Garrett. Where we all stopped to admired and photograph the Bulebells in all their glory before heading home to Braintree.
The final statistics for the Long ride were Twenty Eight miles at an average of Eleven and a half miles per hour.
