Friday 27th April, looked a very damp morning for our planned ride to the Round Bush cafe in Purleigh which is a village beyond Maldon, so only 5 brave souls came prepared to get very wet, Mick, Paul, Ian , Bill and myself Peter.
We left Braintree at 9 30 and made our way to Rivenhall, and decided though there were rain clouds around, it was not actually raining and we would continue on to Purleigh.
We went through Witham and then Little Braxted and soon after then we could see the coast and headed into Heybridge and as Mick said we have a nice little surprise for you and then cycled up the very steep incline into Maldon , thankfully it is only very brief. We then headed to the Round Bush cafe at Purleigh and then most of us had a well deserved late breakfast, though Paul only had 2 cups of tea.
Suitably re-nourished we headed home home via Cock Clarks ( never heard of it before) , Woodham Mortimer, Woodham Walter , Hatfield Peverel , Witham and home.
It was roughly 42 miles, amazingly though there was rain in the air , it did not properly rain on us at all , all day. Thank you Mick and the ride has given me ideas for a suitable route for some 25 mile rides.
